When I launched Kelly Golia Events in January 2016, I knew that one of my biggest challenges was going to be to build a portfolio. After all, not many people would put their trust in someone to plan one of the most important days of their lives without first seeing what they could do. I was confident in my ability to plan a killer party, but needed a way to showcase my skills in a way that I could share with potential clients.
Enter: the styled shoot.
Styled shoots are a pretty awesome tool that lots of wedding professionals use to flex their creative muscles and build a stunning portfolio of their talents. It gives us a chance to connect with other industry pros to plan and design a mock wedding (or other event) complete with all of the necessary elements: design, photography, stationery, hair, makeup, attire, table settings... the list goes on. I am so, so lucky (and grateful!) that a group of my favorite lady-boss pros jumped at the chance to collaborate with me on my very first styled shoot, and I'm so proud of the final product.
I could go on and on about this experience, from assembling a team, to finding inspiration, to dealing with my "imposter syndrome" as a brand new industry pro trying to establish myself and my business. So instead of overwhelming you with every single detail, I've broken the experience down into a two-part series. Read on here:
